District Eleven
The District |
District Eleven is one of the poorer districts in all of the country and their job is centered on agriculture. As an agriculture centered area they focus on orchards, fields of grain, and cotton which is planted all around the district center in large fields. Almost everything they grown though goes to the Capitol rather than their own people who need it the most; the people of this district often starve to death because of how little food that is left to them. This district is many times larger than District Twelve but their people still live in small shacks, only adding to the idea that they are extremely poor and making it difficult for them to live when the weather is cold.
The most notable part of Distinct Eleven though is the fact that their government is one of the most cruel to have ever existed. The Peacekeepers of this area are not afraid to kill anyone who they feel has gone out of line, not asking questions or even caring if it is a minor offense.
Another notable part of District Eleven is their famous Weeping Call which all people know. It is a famous tune that the tributes of this district often use to communicate to one another in the arena.
Personality |
Since District Eleven is so poor and underfed, most of their tributes are not ready to face the horrors of the games and are not in the appropriate shape to battle in the arena despite being physically fit. What plays in their advantage to help them avoid dying so quickly in the games are that they are very fast and limber as well as educated in evasion and climbing.
Careers |
Most people of District Eleven work as farmers, orchard workers, or shop owners once they are of legal age, but the economy has been getting gradually worse which has lead them to force children into labor. These small children are instructed to climb to the highest branches in the orchard to pick fruit since they are small and agile, but this is beneficial to them because they learn climbing and evasion techniques for the Hunger Games. In addition to this, working in the fields exposes them to knowledge about herbs that heal because various different insects often sting the children and they have to heal themselves with what is available.
